2009 Sydney Show...1st Prize "Simple but Effective"
This quilt won first place in the NSW Quilters Guild Show 2009
in the Mixed techniques-anything goes category. I spoke to the judge
after the show and she told me it was a stand-out in its category,
so that makes all the blood sweat and tears worth it
Simple but effective, was created from a piece of curtain fabric
that I found in a remnants bin at Lincraft Miranda. Something
appealed to me, I think it was the amount of quilting space
available. I used thick poly wadding so the final appearance was
"Trapunto". I then coloured and set with watercolour pencils in the
outer border and applied many pearls and crystals. I love "Bling"...

Four Frolicking Fat Fairies (FFFF) toured the country in
2009. "FFFF" was a
finalist in the Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine Challenge
in conjunction with The Australian Quilt Convention that took place
in Melbourne in 2009. The theme was "Fantasy"... I had hand-dyed
some cotton homespun with Procion Dyes and the fabric was left
hanging on the curtains in my workshop, for inspiration. One evening
whilst looking at this fabric the fairies appeared ... my friend
couldn't see them so I drew them on with chalk .. the fabric was
then stored for a few years and when the challenge appeared in the
magazine those fairies immediately sprung to mind, and thus the
frolicking fat fairies were born. The Fairies have been displayed in
Melbourne, Sydney and will be appearing at all the shows around the
nation that feature the APQM Fantasy Challenge. |
